Grandma Elna's Caramels


1 c. sugar
1 c. corn syrup
1/8 tsp. salt
1/4 c. butter
1 can evaporated milk (or Sweet and Condensed Milk)

Boil sugar, syrup, salt together in heavy pan until 235 degrees, stir constantly. Add butter, slowly add milk in a thin stream stirring constantly. Add slow enough so mixture doesn't stop boiling, stir cook until 235 degrees. Cool and cut into squares.
